Miriam: An Insightful Study
Tonight’s study was an interesting one, focusing on the biblical character Miriam, a prophetess who is first mentioned in the Book of Exodus.
We gained insight into her role in leading the Israelites in the wilderness, as well as her involvement in the rescue of her baby brother Moses from the River Nile.
A Female Prophetess
Miriam is one of the few female prophetesses in the Bible. In the desert, the issue of impurity of mind and body comes to full fruition, which establishes a foundation for what is to follow. An incident in the Bible mentions Miriam being struck with “white leprosy” for questioning and complaining about Moses’ “Cushite” wife.
Miriam’s Background
Miriam is the daughter of Amram and Jochebed, and the older sister of Moses and Aaron according to Numbers 26:59. Miriam is believed to have helped rescue Moses from the River Nile in Exodus 2:4.
Conclusion
Miriam is an important figure in the Bible. Our study revealed her role in the Israelites’ wilderness journey, her involvement in Moses’ rescue, and her punishment for questioning and complaining about Moses’ “Cushite” wife. Miriam is an important character in the Bible and her story is an interesting one.
