We gained insight into her role in leading the Israelites in the wilderness, as well as her involvement in the rescue of her baby brother Moses from the River Nile.

A Female Prophetess

Miriam is one of the few female prophetesses in the Bible. In the desert, the issue of impurity of mind and body comes to full fruition, which establishes a foundation for what is to follow. An incident in the Bible mentions Miriam being struck with “white leprosy” for questioning and complaining about Moses’ “Cushite” wife.

Miriam’s Background

Miriam is the daughter of Amram and Jochebed, and the older sister of Moses and Aaron according to Numbers 26:59. Miriam is believed to have helped rescue Moses from the River Nile in Exodus 2:4.
